Panther football wins 40-0

The Panther football team scored a big 40-0 Homecoming win on Saturday against Independence Community College. The Panthers came out strong with two touchdowns in the first half and didn't look back, scoring two more in the second half and holding Independence scoreless the entire game.

Xavier Washpun came up big for the Panthers with 10 carries for a total of 96 yards and 2 receptions for 57 yards and 1 touchdown. Dawayne Pruitt also intercepted a pass and ran it in for a 43 yard touchdown.

The Panther defense held Independence scoreless with help from Devin Brokington and Angelo Sumler, having 9 tackles each. Brokington had 8 solo tackles and Sumler had 6 solo tackles.

"It was a great team effort. Defense played exceptional posting a shutout and giving the offense good field position throughout the day along with scoring a TD off an interception," commented ECC Head Coach Jesse Montalto. "Offense took care of the ball by not having any turnovers and capitalizing with some big scoring plays. Special teams was really consistent all day long. We came together as a team and won all three phases of the game. It's great for our kids to get a win like this on Homecoming."

The Panthers will be at home for their next game on Saturday, Oct. 25, at 1 pm when they'll play Iowa Central.
