Ellsworth Assistant Coach Travis Walker joined the Panther baseball coaching staff in Fall 2018.

Coach Walker graduated from Independence High School in 1994 and participated in baseball, football and basketball. He lettered for three years in baseball and was part of teams that won 28 games (1993) and 30 games (1994) in a season.  During his senior year in baseball he was a First Team All WAMAC conference selection at catcher and a Second Team All District selection and Honorable Mention All State selection.  He played for Head Coach Pat Murphy who is now the head softball coach at Alabama.

After high school, he pursued college baseball at Waldorf College in Forest City, IA where he was a two year starter 1994-1996. He was nominated for an Academic All-American honor for his efforts on the field and in the classroom and graduated Cum Laude in 1996 with a 3.7 cumulative GPA.

 

In 2004, he was hired as Head Baseball Coach at Aplington-Parkersburg High School and was there for 12 years. In his time at A-P he compiled a 136-181 record with an 8-12 post season record, while twice playing in the district finals. The 136 wins, is the most in school history under any coach. A-P tied the school record for season wins twice (2007 & 2013) and won the first ever NICL conference championship in 2013.  In his time at A-P, they had 30 All Conference players and 11 All District players. 

In 2015, he accepted a position as Head Baseball Coach at Independence, IA High School.  In hit three seasons, he has accumuilated an overall record of 47-73 and had 9 players recognized for all conference honors, seven for all district honors, and a second team all state selection in 2017.  In 2017, the Mustangs were 20-20 posting the first 20 win season for the program in over 15 years while hitting .303 as a team.    

Coach Walker and his family live in Parkersburg, IA where they've been for the past 13 years. His wife Sherri is a School Improvement Consultant with Central Rivers AEA. They have three children: Kayleigh (19), Eva (10) and Stella (8).
