ECC Baseball Bows Twice at Kirkwood

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA -- Kirkwood CC scored late in both games to secure an ICCAC sweep of visiting Ellsworth CC on Wednesday.  The Eagles downed the Panthers by scores of 5-2 and 6-3.

In game one, KCC broke a 1-1 tie with two runs in the 3rd and 4th innings and limited the Panthers to just one run after they opened the scoring with a 3rd-inning tally.  ECC was held to three hits -- doubles by Trey Morris and Zeb Wede and a single from Bryce Hall.  Starting pitcher Morris went the distance, allowing eight hits and five runs with two walks and three strikeouts.

Ellsworth took an early 3-0 lead in the second game with a run in the 3rd and two more in the 4th.  Kirkwood then scored six unanswered runs over the next four innings to complete the sweep.  The Panthers had five hits, all singles, by Victor Lara, Morris, Ybrahim Quevedo, TJ Truso and Fabian Dumey.  Wede and Truso had RBIs.  ECC used Jason Moist, Isaac Rohde and Matt Nolan on the mound. Each gave up two runs and they combined for seven Ks.

The Panthers get to see DMACC for the first time this spring this weekend with home doubleheaders slated for Saturday and Sunday.
