ECC’s Sebastian Holte-Mancera signs with University of Maryland

Ellsworth Community College baseball player Sebastian Holte-Mancera will be continuing his baseball and academic career at Division I University of Maryland.

Holte-Mancera had a batting average of .384 this season along with 51 RBI's and 73 hits (including 22 doubles and 7 homeruns). He earned ICCAC Athlete of the Week as well as All-Region Honorable Mention honors.

When asked why he chose Maryland, Holte-Mancera said, "I chose Maryland because it's always been a dream of mine to play in the Big 10. It's also a very good school academically, and their baseball facilities are Power 5 caliber."

Holte-Mancera says he enjoyed his time at ECC. "Ellsworth has definitely made me a better person. I met my brothers at Ellsworth. The player I am now is so much more developed than I was when I arrived, both mentally and physically. Just the grind of JUCO baseball really tested me, and I came out a stronger player."

His contributions to the Panther team were appreciated by ECC head baseball coach Travis Akre. "I'm so excited for Sebastian; he's earned this opportunity. He's been told by many people that he doesn't have a position, that he's not big enough, etc. His work ethic got him to this point. He's going to do big things at Maryland. I can't wait to follow his career there. They are getting a very good player!"
