Ellsworth Community College former baseball players Melvin Rodriguez and Rene Colon have had a great deal of success at D1 Jackson State University.
Rodriguez has been selected to the pre-season 2nd Team All Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). He was awarded 1st Team honors as a junior last year.
Colon will be the opening day starting pitcher for Jackson State this week.
Last year Jackson State won the SWAC tournament championship over Alabama State and qualified for the NCAA Regionals. They beat #1 seeded Louisiana Lafayette in the opening game of the Regional Tournament before being eliminated by Lafayette later in the tournament.
