ECC baseball takes home three wins over Southwestern

The Ellsworth Community College baseball team took home three out of four games this past weekend against Southwestern Community College.

The Panthers came out hitting in the first game, taking SWCC down in a 12-3 victory; Trey Ertmer was the winning pitcher. Austin Douglas was 3-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Jonathan Orraca and Connor Grant each added triples in the win.

ECC continued their success with a 12-1 victory in the second game. Juan DeLeon was the winning pitcher for the game, and Grant had the big bat with a home run and three RBIs. Arnaldo Matos had a triple and an RBI to contribute to the win.

The Panthers also took the third game win with a 17-2 victory. Rene Colon was the winning pitcher for ECC. Brian Diaz added a gram slam in the 2nd inning, followed up by Austin Douglas hitting a home run. Lance Jensen also had a triple to seal the win.

ECC's hitting streak fell short in the final game against Southwestern with a 3-4 loss. Grant was the losing pitcher. Orraca, Grant and Sean Hennen each had two hits, including a double each.

"This was a great weekend for our guys. We really made some good adjustments offensively," commented Head ECC Baseball Coach Travis Akre. "Tough way to close the series with the loss in game four. We just need to clean up a few things late in tight ball games."

The Panther baseball team is set to play Tuesday, April 1, at Indian Hills followed by four games at Kirkwood this coming weekend.
