1st Annual Panther Preliminaries

Ellworth Community College, in partnership with Stockdale Gun Club in Ackley, hosted the 1st Annual Panther Preliminaries Sports Shooting event Saturday and Sunday, June 2 & 3. More than 138 shooters participated in the event, including both in-state and out-of-state youth.

The two-day ATA trapshooting event included trapshooting and sporting clays in three divisions: High School, Intermediate/Middle School, and Rookie (younger than middle school). The goal of the event was to create fun, excitement and awareness of Ellsworth Community College's Sports Shooting program through a friendly competition.

During the event, ECC awarded $2,000 in scholarships. Four $500 scholarships were awarded for the Male and Female Champion, lucky numbers score drawing, and a random drawing of those who participated on both days. Winners were Male Champion Keal Richmond with a shot of 194 out of a possible 200, Female Champion Raylee Bishop with a shot of 188 out of the a possible 200, Lucky Numbers Drawing Ben Schaefer, and Random Drawing Carson McCabe. All four winners are from Ankeny. Shooting shell bags and medals were awarded for winners in categories based on age, gender and school.

Schaefer's Lucky Number Drawing resulted in a ten-way shoot off. All contestants whose score contained an "8" were called out, and Schaefer won with a perfect 25 out of 25 from the 16 yard line.
